The Three Types of Gift Assets and Which Suits Your Niche

Not all gift assets are the same and not all formats suit all niches. The right format depends on your ideal client, the nature of your work, and the kind of value that's most useful to someone at the stage they're in when they first encounter you.

The Insight Asset. A piece of thinking or perspective that shifts how your ideal client understands their situation. This works well when your value is in the clarity you bring — a fresh framework, a reframe of a common problem, a counter-intuitive finding. Your ideal client reads it and thinks differently as a result.

Examples: a short report, a structured guide, a framework document, a diagnostic — like a scorecard. Content that produces an insight the reader didn't have before.

The Tool Asset. Something your ideal client uses to make progress on a specific task. This works well when your value is in helping people do something — not just think about it. The tool gives them a taste of working with your approach and produces a result they can act on.

Examples: a workbook, a template, a calculator, a planner. Something that saves them time or produces an output they can use immediately.

The Access Asset. A piece of your expertise delivered directly — a short training, a recorded session, a mini-course. This works well when your value is in how you teach or explain. The ideal client gets a direct experience of working with you before paying.

Examples: a free video training, a recorded workshop, a mini email course. Something that lets them experience your voice and method directly.

The Canvas will help you choose the right type — based on your niche, your offer, and what your ideal client needs at the moment they first find you.
